Jennifer Chandler, Psy.D. is a Clinical Staff Psychologist at the California Institution for Men in Chino, CA.
Dr. Chandler, graduated from Texas Southern University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She received her Master of Arts and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University.
Over the past few years, Dr. Chandler has enjoyed working with a wide range of clients. She conducted psychotherapy with adult clients at the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center's Mental Health Department. There, she became involved in the S.T.O.P. Parter Abuse Program and co-facilitated a group for female survivors of domestic violence. Additionally, she saw clients from the Jeffrey Goodman Special Care Clinic who had recently seroconverted (discovered they are HIV+).
Dr. Chandler has also seen children, ages 5-11 in a school setting through West County Counseling Center. Through group and individual therapy, she helped children gain the confidence they needed to perform social tasks, created a safe place for kids of divorce to talk about their experiences, and gathered groups of kids to share stories about loved ones they have lost. For this, she worked closely with school staff, parents, and teachers.
Before beginning her postdoctoral work at the California Institution for Men, Dr. Chandler worked with Dually Diagnosed Adults (Mentally Disordered Adults with Addiction) and Men (and some Women) with a history of Sexual Offenses at Sharper Future Clinic. Her current work involves providing individual and group rehabilitative therapy to Incarcerated Male Offenders at a State Facility.
Above all, she believes in multicultural awareness. So much so that she wrote her doctoral project and gave a professional presentation on the subject. She also presented at the Lesbian and Gay Psychotherapy Association of Southern California , if you are interested in attending upcoming presentations, please email her for details.
